Routine Maintenance
Here are a few things you can do yourself to keep your system running in tip-top shape.
- Check the air filter or fan coil every 3-4 weeks. Dirty filters can cause your system to have to work harder. Maintaining the cleanliness of your filter is very important.
- Clean the dust off your indoor coil using a vacuum and soft brush attachment. Just be sure to do this only when the coil is dry.
- Keep your outdoor unit free of debris. Keeping stuff like grass clippings and leaves away from the unit will minimize the amount of maintenance it needs. Also, be sure to check the base pan, which is under the unit. Remove any debris that may collect there.
- Keep your outdoor unit on a level surface. This will keep it draining properly. If you start to notice water or ice under the unit, call to have it drained as soon as possible.
- At the beginning of each heating season, inspect your heater’s combustion area and vent system. Dirt and rust can keep your system from operating properly.
- If you have an oil-fired boiler, arrange to have it inspected annually.
